¹⁷ Now ^(A)in the first month ^[a]of the second year, on the first day of the month, the ^[b]tabernacle was erected. ¹⁸ Moses erected the tabernacle and ^[c]laid its bases, and set up its boards, and ^[d]inserted its bars, and erected its pillars. ¹⁹ And he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering of the tent ^[e]on top of it, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. ²⁰ Then he took ^(B)the testimony and put it into the ark, and ^[f]attached the poles to the ark, and put the ^[g]atoning cover ^[h]on top of the ark. ²¹ He then brought the ark into the tabernacle, and ^(C)set up a veil for the covering, and screened off the ark of the testimony, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. ²² He also ^(D)put the table in the tent of meeting on the north side of the tabernacle, outside the veil. ²³ And he set the arrangement of ^(E)bread in order on it before the Lord, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. ²⁴ Then he placed the lampstand in the tent of meeting, opposite the table, on the south side of the tabernacle. ²⁵ And he ^(F)lighted the lamps before the Lord, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. ²⁶ Then he ^(G)placed the gold altar in the tent of meeting in front of the veil; ²⁷ and he ^(H)burned fragrant incense on it, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. ²⁸ Then he set up the curtain for the doorway of the tabernacle. ²⁹ And he ^(I)set the altar of burnt offering in front of the doorway of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, and ^(J)offered on it the burnt offering and the meal offering, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. ³⁰ He placed the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it for washing. ^31 (K)From it Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet. ³² When they entered the tent of meeting, and when they approached the altar, they washed, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. ³³ And he ^(L)erected the courtyard all around the ^[i]tabernacle and the altar, and ^[j]hung up the curtain for the gate of the courtyard. So Moses finished the work.

The Glory of the Lord

^34 (M)Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the ^(N)glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. ³⁵ And Moses ^(O)was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. ³⁶ Throughout their journeys, ^(P)whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the sons of Israel would set out; ³⁷ but ^(Q)if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out until the day when it was taken up. ³⁸ For throughout their journeys, ^(R)the cloud of the Lord was on the tabernacle by day, and there was fire in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel.

Healing the Man Born Blind

9 As Jesus passed by, He saw a man who had been blind from birth. ² And His disciples asked Him, “^(A)Rabbi, who sinned, ^(B)this man or his ^(C)parents, that he would be born blind?” ³ Jesus answered, “It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was ^(D)so that the works of God might be displayed in him. ⁴ We must carry out the works of Him who sent Me ^(E)as long as it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. ⁵ While I am in the world, I am ^(F)the Light of the world.” ⁶ When He had said this, He ^(G)spit on the ground, and made mud from the saliva, and applied the mud to his eyes, ⁷ and said to him, “Go, wash in ^(H)the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he left and ^(I)washed, and ^(J)came back seeing. ⁸ So the neighbors, and those who previously saw ^[a]him as a beggar, were saying, “Is this not the one who used to ^(K)sit and beg?” ⁹ Others were saying, “This is he,” still others were saying, “No, but he is like him.” ^[b]The man himself kept saying, “I am the one.” ¹⁰ So they were saying to him, “How then were your eyes opened?” ¹¹ He answered, “The man who is called Jesus made mud, and spread it on my eyes, and said to me, ‘Go to ^(L)Siloam and wash’; so I went away and washed, and I received sight.” ¹² And they said to him, “Where is He?” He *said, “I do not know.”

Controversy over the Man

¹³ They *brought ^[c]the man who was previously blind to the Pharisees. ^14 (M)Now it was a Sabbath on the day that Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes. ^15 (N)Then the Pharisees also were asking him again how he received his sight. And he said to them, “He applied mud to my eyes, and I washed, and I see.” ¹⁶ Therefore some of the Pharisees were saying, “This man is not from God, because He ^(O)does not keep the Sabbath.” But others were saying, “How can a man who is a sinner perform such ^[d](P)signs?” And ^(Q)there was dissension among them. ¹⁷ So they *said ^(R)again to the man who was blind, “What do you say about Him, since He opened your eyes?” And he said, “He is a ^(S)prophet.”

^18 (T)The Jews then did not believe it about him, that he had been blind and had received sight, until they called the parents of the very one who had received his sight, ¹⁹ and they questioned them, saying, “Is this your son, who you say was born blind? Then how does he now see?” ²⁰ His parents then answered and said, “We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind; ²¹ but how he now sees, we do not know; or who opened his eyes, we do not know. Ask him; he is of age, he will speak for himself.” ²² His parents said this because they ^(U)were afraid of the ^[e]Jews; for the Jews ^(V)had already reached the decision that if anyone confessed Him to be ^[f]Christ, ^(W)he was to be excommunicated from the synagogue. ²³ It was for this reason that his parents said, “^(X)He is of age; ask him.”

²⁴ So for a second time they summoned the man who had been blind, and said to him, “^(Y)Give glory to God; we know that ^(Z)this man is a sinner.” ²⁵ He then answered, “Whether He is a sinner, I do not know; one thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.” ²⁶ So they said to him, “What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?” ²⁷ He answered them, “^(AA)I told you already and you did not ^(AB)listen; why do you want to hear it again? You do not want to become His disciples too, do you?” ²⁸ They spoke abusively to him and said, “You are His disciple, but ^(AC)we are disciples of Moses. ²⁹ We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, ^(AD)we do not know where He is from.” ³⁰ The man answered and said to them, “Well, here is the amazing thing, that you do not know where He is from, and yet He opened my eyes! ³¹ We know that ^(AE)God does not listen to sinners; but if someone is ^[g]God-fearing and does His will, He listens to him. ^32 [h]Since the beginning of time it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind. ^33 (AF)If this man were not from God, He could do nothing.” ³⁴ They answered him, “^(AG)You were born entirely in sins, and yet you are teaching us?” So they ^[i](AH)put him out.

Jesus Affirms His Deity

³⁵ Jesus heard that they had ^[j](AI)put him out, and upon finding him, He said, “Do you believe in the ^(AJ)Son of Man?” ³⁶ He answered ^[k]by saying, “And ^(AK)who is He, ^[l]Sir, that I may believe in Him?” ³⁷ Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him, and ^(AL)He is the one who is talking with you.” ³⁸ And he said, “I believe, Lord.” And he ^(AM)worshiped Him. ³⁹ And Jesus said, “^(AN)For judgment I came into this world, so that ^(AO)those who do not see may see, and ^(AP)those who see may become blind.” ⁴⁰ Those who were with Him from the Pharisees heard these things and said to Him, “^(AQ)We are not blind too, are we?” ⁴¹ Jesus said to them, “^(AR)If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now that you maintain, ‘^(AS)We see,’ your sin remains.

The Priest’s Part in the Offerings

^8 [a]Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ⁹ “Command Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘This is ^(A)the law for the burnt offering: the burnt offering itself shall remain on the hearth on the altar all night until the morning, and ^(B)the fire on the altar is to be kept burning on it. ¹⁰ The priest is to put on ^(C)his linen robe, and he shall put on linen undergarments next to his ^[b]body; and he shall take up the fatty ashes to which the fire ^[c]reduces the burnt offering on the altar and place them beside the altar. ¹¹ Then he shall take off his garments and put on other garments, and carry the fatty ashes outside the camp to a clean place. ¹² The fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it. It shall not go out, but the priest shall burn wood on it every morning; and he shall lay out the burnt offering on it, and offer up in smoke the fat portions of the peace offerings ^(D)on it. ¹³ Fire shall be kept burning continually on the altar; it is not to go out.

¹⁴ ‘Now this is the law of the grain offering: the sons of Aaron shall present it before the Lord in front of the altar. ^15 (E)Then one of them shall lift up from it a handful of the fine flour of the grain offering, ^[d]with its oil and all the incense that is on the grain offering, and he shall offer it up in smoke on the altar, a soothing aroma, as its memorial offering to the Lord. ¹⁶ And Aaron and his sons are to eat ^(F)what is left of it. It shall be eaten as unleavened cakes in a holy place; they are to eat it in the courtyard of the tent of meeting. ^17 (G)It shall not be baked with leaven. I have given it as their share from My offerings by fire; ^(H)it is most holy, like the sin offering and ^(I)the guilt offering. ^18 (J)Every male among the sons of Aaron may eat it; it is a permanent ordinance throughout your generations, from the offerings by fire to the Lord. ^[e](K)Whoever touches them ^[f]will become consecrated.’”

¹⁹ Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ²⁰ “This is the offering which Aaron and his sons are to present to the Lord on the day when he is anointed; the tenth of an ^[g](L)ephah of fine flour as ^(M)a ^[h]regular grain offering, half of it in the morning and half of it in the evening. ²¹ It shall be prepared with oil on a ^(N)griddle. When it is well stirred, you shall bring it. You shall present the grain offering in baked pieces as a soothing aroma to the Lord. ²² The anointed priest who will be in his place ^[i]among his sons shall ^[j]offer it. By a permanent ordinance it shall be entirely offered up in smoke to the Lord. ²³ So every grain offering of the priest shall be burned entirely. It shall not be eaten.”

²⁴ Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ²⁵ “Speak to Aaron and to his sons, saying, ‘This is the law of the sin offering: ^(O)in the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered, the sin offering shall be slaughtered before the Lord; it is most holy. ^26 (P)The priest who offers it for sin shall eat it. It shall be eaten in a holy place, in the courtyard of the tent of meeting. ^27 (Q)[k]Whoever touches its flesh ^[l]will become consecrated; and when any of its blood spatters on a garment, you shall wash what spattered on it in a holy place. ²⁸ Also ^(R)the earthenware vessel in which it was boiled shall be broken; and if it was boiled in a bronze vessel, then it shall be scoured and rinsed in water. ^29 (S)Every male among the priests may eat it; ^(T)it is most holy. ³⁰ But no sin offering ^(U)of which any of the blood is brought into the tent of meeting to make atonement ^(V)in the Holy Place shall be eaten; ^(W)it shall be burned with fire.

Honor Widows

5 ^(A)Do not sharply rebuke an ^(B)older man, but rather appeal to him as a father, and to ^(C)the younger men as brothers, ² to the older women as mothers, and to the younger women as sisters, in all purity.

³ Honor widows who are actually ^(D)widows; ⁴ but if any widow has children or grandchildren, ^(E)they must first learn to show proper respect for their own family and to give back compensation to their parents; for this is ^(F)acceptable in the sight of God. ⁵ Now she who is actually a ^(G)widow and has been left alone ^(H)has set her hope on God, and she continues in ^(I)requests and prayers night and day. ⁶ But she who ^(J)indulges herself in luxury is ^(K)dead, even while she lives. ^7 [a](L)Give these instructions as well, so that they may be above reproach. ⁸ But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has ^(M)denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

⁹ A widow is to be ^(N)put on the list only if she is not less than sixty years old, having been ^(O)the wife of one man, ¹⁰ having a reputation for ^(P)good works; and if she has brought up children, if she has ^(Q)shown hospitality to strangers, if she ^(R)has washed the ^[b]saints’ feet, if she has ^(S)assisted those in distress, and if she has devoted herself to every good work. ¹¹ But refuse to register younger widows, for when they feel ^(T)physical desires alienating them from Christ, they want to get married, ¹² thereby incurring condemnation, because they have ^[c]ignored their previous pledge. ¹³ At the same time they also learn to be idle, as they go around from house to house; and not merely idle, but also they become ^(U)gossips and ^(V)busybodies, talking about ^(W)things not proper to mention. ¹⁴ Therefore, I want younger widows to get ^(X)married, have children, ^(Y)manage their households, and ^(Z)give the enemy no opportunity for reproach; ¹⁵ for some ^(AA)have already turned away to follow ^(AB)Satan. ¹⁶ If any woman who is a believer ^(AC)has dependent widows, she must ^(AD)assist them and the church must not be burdened, so that it may assist those who are actually ^(AE)widows.

Concerning Elders

^17 (AF)The elders who ^(AG)lead well are to be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who ^(AH)work hard ^[d]at preaching and teaching. ¹⁸ For the Scripture says, “^(AI)You shall not muzzle the ox while it is threshing,” and “^(AJ)The laborer is worthy of his wages.” ¹⁹ Do not accept an accusation against an ^(AK)elder except on the basis of ^(AL)two or three witnesses. ²⁰ Those who continue in sin, ^(AM)rebuke in the presence of all, ^(AN)so that the rest also will be fearful of sinning. ^21 (AO)I solemnly exhort you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of His chosen angels, to maintain these principles without bias, doing nothing in a spirit of partiality. ^22 (AP)Do not lay hands upon anyone too quickly and ^[e]thereby share ^(AQ)responsibility for the sins of others; keep yourself ^[f]free from sin.

²³ Do not go on drinking only water, but ^(AR)use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.

²⁴ The sins of some people are quite evident, going before them to judgment; for others, their sins ^(AS)follow after. ²⁵ Likewise also, deeds that are good are quite evident, and ^(AT)those which are otherwise cannot be concealed.
